This is a cheese toast dish made by Old Sheffield Plate, thought to date from around 1825.
It was used to melt cheese on toast placed on a plate, and the screw-on plug at the back can be removed to add hot water.
In addition to making cheese toast, it can also be used to keep food warm.
The edge of the lid and the handle are decorated with three-dimensional ornaments, and the bottom center of the lid and the inner plate are engraved with a tree crest, which is thought to be the family crest of the owner at the time.
Considering it is 200 years old, there is little wear on the plating and it is in good condition.
