A vintage porcelain egg coddler by the renowned English maker Royal Worcester, decorated with charming little birds. An egg coddler is a traditional piece of British breakfast tableware: a raw egg is placed inside with butter, herbs, or other ingredients, then cooked in a water bath with the lid closed until soft and creamy, and served at the table in its container.
The glossy white porcelain body is delicately painted in soft colors, with one bird spreading its wings among pine branches and a wren standing by the water. The smooth finish of the heat-resistant fine porcelain is complemented by the functional elegance of a silver-colored metal screw-top lid with a ring for easy lifting.
There is slight scuffing on the metal lid and a little fine soiling on the foot, but the inside of the porcelain and the decorations remain in excellent condition. Perfect as a cooking vessel for an elegant holiday breakfast, it can also be used to serve jam or condiments, or to hold treasured accessories.
