An antique briar pipe by the prestigious W H Carrington & Co, hallmarked at the Chester Assay Office in England in 1901, complete with its original fitted hard case.
The plump bulldog-shaped bowl displays a fine, intricate grain, while the square, beveled diamond shank lends the pipe a crisp, elegant silhouette. The sterling silver band at the junction is engraved by hand with flowing botanical scrollwork, adding an elegant gleam against the wood.
There is some charring inside and around the rim of the bowl, minor scratches to the wood and mouthpiece, and scuffs and discoloration inside and outside the case, but these are part of the rich patina that only an antique over 120 years old can offer. This exceptional piece will add a touch of distinction to a grown-up's quiet moment of relaxation, savoring a leisurely pipe.
