US Antique Sterling Silver Vermeil Ornate Folding Lorgnette Eyeglasses

This is a folding lorgnette (handheld spectacles) from the late 19th to early 20th century, made in the USA from sterling silver with vermeil (gold plating).

It features elegant arabesque patterns, imbued with the spirit of Art Nouveau, and intricate Rococo-style reliefs applied three-dimensionally throughout. The mechanism that opens the lenses when a button is pressed has a weak spring and requires manual assistance, but it is still perfectly usable. By threading a chain through the ring at the end, it can be worn as a pendant to adorn your décolletage, adding elegance to your daily gestures for theater or reading.
