It is made from calabash, a type of South African gourd, and its U-shaped curved form is the type that has become synonymous with Sherlock Holmes.
The top of the bowl has a fire bowl made of meerschaum fitted into it like a cap.
There is some soot staining inside the bowl, but there are no noticeable scratches or blockages.
